Thresholds: Standing in awe

Mt.Washington1

The rapid growth of spring and summer is coming to an end. Fruits and grains ripen, the land has endured days of heat, and the water in the lakes is warm. Crickets and and tree frogs sing their lullaby as the sun sets much earlier than just a few weeks ago. I see the exhaustion in the trees and plants. They have given their all to procreate and insure the continuation of their species. It is the time of the Great Pause: the period from Lughnasadh (August 1st.) to Samhain ( October 31st.) Soon most living things will begin the gradual decline into dormancy. There are preparations to be made: gathering in resources; storing food; securing the homestead.

But for now, a time to look in awe at the world around us….
